Horne’s Ferry, the only international car/passenger ferry on the St. Lawrence River, is part of a beautiful and historic shortcut between Kingston and the US. When you are on the ferry, get out, walk around, and enjoy the view. Horne’s Ferry crosses the main channel of the St Lawrence Seaway. If you are lucky you might even get a close up view of a “Laker” or an “Ocean liner”.

Taking the ferry is a great way to take miles off your drive and avoid the long lineups for US and Canada Customs that are common place at the Thousand Islands Bridge due to the heavy traffic volumes there.

This short cut between Kingston and the US involves two short ferry rides and a ten minute drive across an island. In all the time it takes to get from the Kingston ferry terminal to Cape Vincent is about one hour but the mileage saved by not driving around by the Thousand Islands Bridge could be anywhere from 30 to 60 miles depending on where you are coming from or headed to.
